NSW Government Preschool Fee Reduction Initiative

Together with the Australian Government, all state and territory governments have committed to provide access to a quality early childhood education program for all children, in the year before full-time schooling. Research shows that participating in a quality early childhood education program can significantly increase positive educational and life outcomes for children,

The Minister for Education, Mr Adrian Piccoli, has announced a $20 million initiative to reduce preschool fees for families with a 4 or 5 year old child.  Our service has been allocated a one-off funding amount to enable us to reduce preschool fees for children that will be starting school next year.

We appreciate the Government’s recognition of the importance of a preschool education.

A Preschool That’s On The Move

“Meeting the needs of young families living in outer rural areas in regards to early childhood childcare is a service many young mothers or newcomers may not be aware of.

In 1979, the Hunter Mobile Preschool was established to accommodate the needs of young children aged between three to six years living in outlying and rural areas in and around the Lower Hunter.”

Hunter Health Vision Screening

Tracy Kirkwood visited our preschool venues during this term to conduct simple, non-invasive vision screening on the 4 years olds. Tracy used games to conduct the screening.

Preschool Photos

The children’s photos are taken professionally once a year. Families have the opportunity to order packages to suit their budget. Our preschool photos were done during week 4 of this term.

The photos were taken by A-One Fotomakers Hunter.

Dental Visits

Pacific Smiles Dental visited preschool during week 3 of Term 4. This visit introduced children to the basics of oral hygiene, and prepares them for a visit to the dentist.

The information session was presented by Margo Dibbles, an experienced dental nurse. The children were introduced to correct brushing techniques, nutrition, and basic oral hygiene practices.

Children had the opportunity to ‘dress up’ in gloves, masks and gowns, and put their new found knowledge into practice. Each child was given a goodie bag to take home at the end of the session.

Have Preschool Will Travel

“For children across the Hunter Valley, it is not the wheels on the bus that go round and round, but the wheels on their preschool. Meredith Flynn looks at a unique early childhood educational service.

When selecting a preschool for our children, the list of criteria can vary depending on our personal preferences. But one item that rates highly across most urban parents’ lists is convenience. With mornings a constant juggle of time and organisational skills, a preschool that is in a direct line between home and work or school is a bonus that is hard to ignore. But what if your closest preschool was over an hour’s drive from your town along country roads? This is where mobile preschool services like the Lower Hunter Activity Van Association step in.”
